One of the biggest banks in Canada recently announced that it would be launching a brand new mobile credit card system.

The Montreal Gazette reports that Rogers’ chief executive Nadir Mohamed showed off the new program during a recent speech to the Canadian Club. While the system hasn’t been introduced to the pubic yet, the bank executive said that the trend toward mobile payments would explode over the next few years.

“There’s no question that when we launch our credit card, it will also be one of the first credit cards in your virtual wallet,” Mohamed said after a speech to Montreal’s Canadian Club. He went on to say that users would be able to use a “safe and secure platform that uses the SIM card inside your NFC-enabled (Near Field Communication) device “

Other firms have been hoping to take advantage of the popularity of mobile payments. In a recent release, Fiserv stated that it would be introducing a mobile credit card terminal for use in stores. The system will help users pay with their smartphones.
