A recently launched credit card will give customers the chance to earn benefits from using the payment system.

The Citgo Rewards Card, a joint venture from Citi Retail Services and Citgo Petroleum Corporation, will officially be released on September 1, and gives incentives to users who want to save money on gasoline for their automobiles. Customers will not be subject to any minimum {or maximum} purchase requirements to earn money-saving rewards.

A gas station franchise representative said that the program would benefit both merchants and customers who signed up for the payment option.

“Because we are always looking for ways to help our Marketers and Retailers succeed, we removed the burden of card processing fees and designed an offer that encourages repeat visits by consumers,” said Alan Flagg, general manager of light oils marketing for Citgo. “The icing on the cake is that our loyal customers can now save on every fuel purchase they make with the card at their local Citgo.”

Many oil companies are joining forces with other brands for merchant services-related rewards programs. Shell teamed up with grocery store chain Giant to unveil the Giant Gas Rewards program, first launched in May 2010.
