According to some in the industry, creating a secure payment environment in the cloud is possible, despite some concerns that using the online-focused method may be less safe.
TechTarget reports that when it comes to payment card industry (PCI) compliance, the likelihood of data being stolen decreases. In its virtualization guidance document, the PCI Security Standards Council said that processing payments through the cloud forced merchant service providers to use more caution.
PricewaterhouseCoopers director of threat and vulnerability management, Michael Dahn, said that those relying on the services should make sure that all processes were secure and up to standards.
“You may approach a vendor that offers cloud services and they may have been validated as a PCI-compliant provider, but putting your payment systems in their environment does not make you compliant,” Dahn said in an interview with the source.
While PCI compliance is not a requirement, meeting standards is one of the most important ways that business professionals can ensure the safety of data. Leaving accounts vulnerable to a hack can destroy an entire business and reduce trust levels.Back To Blog
