With the holiday season coming up, many credit card firms are increasing the level of rewards they give customers, hoping to encourage more merchant services-related activity.

According to many experts, the sector is hoping to attract more business by rolling out deals during the busy season.

“Card issuers are courting consumers again,” says Beverly Harzog of Credit.com in an interview with USA Today. “This is the perfect time, when people are really looking to get a deal to make it through the holidays.”

One of the deals is from American Express, which is offering card holders five times the reward points at brands including Target and Apple. From November 21 to November 30, members can use the points to get discounts on other items. Those using Discover cards will be able to get between 5 percent and 10 percent back on each purchase when they shop through the brand’s ShopDiscover site.

The ability to accept a wide range of credit cards is an important aspect in the merchant services sector.
