Many of the most well-known brands in the world have been rolling out mobile applications that allow people to make credit card payments.

One popular restaurant franchise that has come out with its own app in recent months is Dunkin’ Donuts. The new system allows users to wave a mobile device in front of a mobile credit card terminal to process a payment. In addition, people will be able to send virtual gift cards to family and friends either through an email, text message or Facebook post. Those with knowledge of the industry said that saving consumers’ time would be popular.

“A transaction that you do every day, even a few times a day, if it saves even a few seconds, it has a meaningful impact on consumers’ lives,” said food industry analyst Erik Thoresen, in an interview with The Associated Press.

Other brands have embraced the mobile payment system as well. The Home Depot announced that it would be using PayPal terminals to allow customers to complete transactions using mobile devices.
