The news of Steve Jobs’ passing was the leading story in many news outlets in recent weeks, with tributes pouring in from all over the world. And while he is most widely known for changing the way people talk on the phone, surf the web and listen to music, he also changed another important sector- merchant services.

According to CreditRatings.com, many small business owners benefited from applications on Jobs’ products that helped them accept plastic payments.

“Jobs also has helped many an entrepreneur by paving the way for all the credit card apps that allow people to make sales on the fly at trade shows, country fairs and kiosks around the country,” the source states. “With at least a couple dozen apps coming out in recent years, a business person can make a sale and take a credit card payment through a cell phone, simplifying the transaction and avoiding the need to handle cash or wait for checks to clear.”

Apple made other news recently when it introduced the latest version of its mobile phone. The iPhone 4S was rolled out just days before the modern innovator passed away.
