Just in time for the holiday shopping rush, discount shopping chain Family Dollar has announced it will sell two different types of Western Union prepaid reward cards in its stores.

The retailer will sell Western Union’s Gold Card MasterCard and Telemundo MasterCard at 7,400 stores in 45 different states. Both of the cards can be used anywhere debit MasterCard is accepted, including at ATMs and ecommerce websites.

In addition, there are several ways consumers can add more money to these cards when needed. They include visiting a Western Union or Family Dollar location, transferring money from a bank account, directing a Western Union money transfer onto the card and directly depositing funds.

“Customers – both our own and those of some of the leading prepaid programs in the market – have told us they are highly satisfied with our cards,” said Western Union’s Mike Hafer. “They see our cards as an easy, affordable way to manage their finances, with no monthly, transaction or overdraft fees.”

While these cards and others like them are popular for gifts, they are also ideal for one to purchase for their own use. One reason is that they make sticking to a budget easier, especially during the busy holiday shopping season.
