Girl scouts adopt mobile card processing for cookie sales

Girl Scout troops across the country are offering convenient mobile credit card processing to boost fundraising efforts.

Girl Scout troops across the country are offering convenient mobile credit card processing to boost fundraising efforts. In 23 states, at least 32 troops have employed mobile technology that enables them to accept debit, credit and prepaid cards anywhere, anytime, according to the Los Angeles Times. Customers can verify the transactions by swiping a finger across the device for a signature and scouts are even able to email receipts for the purchases.

They have decided to update offerings to better meet the needs of customers who don’t carry cash. In the past, sales were restricted by the number of bills an individual had in their wallet. Accepting new payment methods removes that roadblock so scouts can sell more.

“Now every time someone says, ‘Oh, I don’t have cash’ or ‘I don’t have a check,’ we’ve got you!” said Kenya Yarbrough, director of marketing for Girl Scouts Greater L.A.

Additionally, Girl Scouts have adopted a mobile app called the Girl Scout Cookie Finder that makes it easy to find fundraising locations. Customers can use the app to search for cookie sellers in a 30-mile radius by entering an address or using GPS services.

Small businesses and fundraising organizations that count on making sales on-the-go can use a mobile credit card terminal to complete transactions.
