Girl Scouts embracing mobile credit card processing

Buying Girl Scout cookies will be easier for thousands of consumers this year, as more troops are taking steps to put mobile credit card processing systems into place before the selling season begins.

Buying Girl Scout cookies will be easier for thousands of consumers this year, as more troops are taking steps to put mobile credit card processing systems into place before the selling season begins.

According to Pymnts.com, the most recent council to come up with a payment solution for customers is The Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio, which serves more than 11,000 girls in California. Girls selling cookies and other Girl Scout products can now use the PayAnywhere mobile credit card reader and mobile app to accept credit and debit card payments.

The mobile card reader system works by plugging into the audio jack of smartphones and tablets, instantly transforming them into mobile payment terminals that can swipe credit cards to securely process payments. Used together with the free PayAnywhere mobile app, the reader instantly transforms various mobile devices into powerful point-of-sale terminals.

According to MobileCommerceDaily.com, Girl Scouts who use similar mobile credit card processing systems report selling up to four times more cookies. Earlier this year, 30 Girl Scout councils representing more than 40,000 troops started using a similar mobile payment system.
