PayPal leads Amazon and Google in being seen as a trusted digital wallet provider, according to a Forrester survey of 4,000 consumers. Thirty-eight percent of survey respondents said they would trust PayPal with their digital wallet, compared to 35 percent who said the same about banks and credit card companies.

Amazon was the third most trusted digital wallet provider, cited by 23 percent of respondents. Apple and Google were not in the top three, even though Apple and Google dominate the market for mobile devices and operating systems and are arguably well-positioned to create and operate digital wallet services. Apple and Google may not be seen as trusted digital wallet providers by large numbers of consumers because Apple is not seen as being associated with digital payments, while Google has only recently created several digital wallet services. Forrester’s survey also found that 61 percent of respondents said they were aware of digital wallet services, and just 11 percent were using one.
