Emily Blistein is the owner of a retail store called Clementine in Middlebury, Vermont. Emily believes that the key to getting customers into your store for Small Business Saturday is through impactful communication, “All we have to do to make it successful is to communicate to our customers and to our communities why we love doing what we are doing and why it is important to shop small.” Beyond just Small Business Saturday, Blistein utilizes digital marketing to keep customers coming into her handcrafted boutique all year round.
Through emailing and social media, Emily betters her relationship to her customers and keeps them coming back to her store. Here are the two ways Emily suggests to engage with your customer base:
– Have customers sign up for an email list: Emily says that, “If they sign up for your email list, that’s not something people do lightly these days. They want to hear from you.” If a customer gives you their email, it is the first step towards establishing a strong relationship. Craft and curtail your emails in a way that is interesting to your customers and gives them a deeper connection to your brand. Focus on limiting emails, sending only 2-3 every month that are focused.
– Engage through social media channels: Social media is a great way to engage with your customers and get them to come into your store. Social media is a fun option says Emily, “… to inform, to entice, and to excite the customer to come in.” Facebook and Instagram are just two of the channels you can go through to strengthen the relationship with your customer base. Social media is also a great way to bolster loyalty programs, keeping customers coming back for more.
