Retailers might be able to outfit stores with mobile credit card processing equipment sooner than expected following news that Visa has launched a line of mobile services. The new products allow account holders to monitor account history, transfer funds, check balances and receive transaction alerts on mobile devices.

Customers who subscribe to the new services will be able to use mobile phones, smartphones and tablets that are linked with any debit, credit or prepaid card account for mobile credit card processing. Visa says it hopes to launch additional payment programs to make transactions even easier for customers, including mobile check deposit, digital wallet services and NFC technology.

“The services offered by Visa DPS are a one-stop solution for Visa clients who want to serve their customers through the mobile channel without making significant investments in hardware, software or mobile expertise,” said John Partridge of Visa Inc.

The offer of less expensive options for a mobile credit card terminal might make the switch to electronic payments easier for businesses. Credit card giants, like Visa, are pushing to accelerate the widespread deployment of electronic payment technology as a way to provide customers with the most secure and convenient way to pay.
